Replacing halogen with LED
That is possible and certainly recommended. You save up to 70% on your energy costs and benefit from a longer lifespan.
What should you pay attention to?
1. Fitting and lamp base
When replacing your old halogen lighting, pay attention to the correct fitting.
- 12V halogen: G4, GU5.3, G53
- 220V halogen: GU10, E14, E27
2. Voltage
- 230V → can be replaced directly
- 12V → check if the transformer is suitable for LED
3. Dimmability
Not every LED lamp is dimmable. Also check if your dimmer is suitable for LED.
4. Light intensity
Look at lumens instead of watts:
- 50W halogen ≈ 6–7W LED
5. Light colour
- 2700K = warm white (like halogen)
- 3000K = slightly brighter
Note
Always switch off the power and install the LED lamp according to the instructions.
